Costco Stores in Ontario Permitted to Alcohol Sales

Written by ,  at .

Costco locations across Ontario can now sell alcohol, joining the province’s grocery and big-box stores in expanded liquor access. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has issued 412 new grocery licenses, allowing beer, wine, cider, and ready-to-drink cocktails in stores like Costco starting October 31.

These newly licensed stores join approximately 450 grocery outlets already selling alcohol as of August. Costco, along with other retailers, must adhere to regulations such as restricted sale hours (7 a.m. to 11 p.m.), limited container sizes, and required percentages of products from small breweries and wineries.

This expansion is part of Ontario’s ongoing effort to increase convenience and choice for consumers. With nearly 5,000 convenience stores also licensed to sell alcohol, Ontarians now have a broader range of options for purchasing beer, wine, and other beverages beyond traditional liquor stores.
